My beautiful Nonna- the inspiration behind the name Gioia!
Why Gioia (joy-uh)?
Gioia is Italian for JOY.
My mother told me that this is a term of endearment that was used by my Nonno towards my Nonna when she was growing up. When visiting my family in Italy, my cousins also used this word instead of "bella" when greeting us (bella is used by Italians as colloquial, common way to say hello). So, gioia has sentimental value to me.
I also believe that therapy should be a JOYOUS experience- so the word JOY really fits with how I perceive and value therapy.
Since starting my own therapeutic journey, which began in 2019, it has brought an immense sense of joy to my life, along with a multitude of other emotions. It is a big part of the reason why I chose to pursue this career. Because I want to help others feel the way that I do every time I leave the therapeutic room. JOYFUL.
